Squash - Waltham Butternut (2.6" pot)
Winter Squash. The most widely grown butternut variety. Produces 9” fruit with a flesh that is sweet and smooth. Conserve space by growing on a large trellis. Hand-pollination will ensure fruit production (female flowers will form later, and will have a miniature fruit at their base). Excess male blossoms can be harvested and fried in butter for a summer delicacy. Fertilize plants weekly and water regularly. Harvest when skin is hard and uniformly tan in colour. Make sure to leave a 1” stem. Once cured, squash will store well for several months.
Harvest: 95 days
Height: vines of 6-9’
Plant Spacing: 4-8’
