Dill is a refreshing herb whose leaves are excellent fresh in salads. They also pair well with seafood, or can be used to spice up spreads and sour cream. Large umbels are a popular choice for making dill pickles. Plants are beneficial in the vegetable garden, as they attract ladybugs and parasitic wasps, while repelling aphids and spider mites. They make an excellent companion for Brassicas, cucumbers, and eggplants. Plants prefer moderately rich, well-draining soil, and benefit from regular watering and feeding.
